SPICE (Spanish/English Peer Immersion and Cultural Education) Program
Dates: Enrollment is limited to kindergarten students only.
About: SPICE is a dual language immersion program offered at Markham Elementary School. SPICE offers students an exciting opportunity to learn to read, write, and communicate in both Spanish and English. This program combines students from two language groups in one classroom and teaches them in both languages. SPICE classrooms include balanced numbers of English, Spanish and bilingual speaking students, gradually working towards a goal of teaching half of the school day in each language. The curriculum taught in the SPICE Program is aligned with State Standards in all areas. Enrollment in the SPICE Program is limited to new kindergarten students, and parents are asked to commit a period of 7 years (K-6) to the program.
